Short walk round Central London
I started this trip by taking a 199 to Canada Water where I changed over to a 1 going to Holborn. Getting off at Aldwych I crossed over to view the Piccadilly Railway station “Strand” where I got a couple of pictures of the façade. From there I walked down to the bus stops R and S to view some of the buses passing by.
While I was at stop S a 168 was hit by a passing lorry and it lost the offside drivers mirror.
After that bit of excitement, I decided to take a 13 to Oxford Street. The bus, an ADL Enviro 400 rattled like an old Leyland Titan but did get us there.
Getting off the 13 at stop OV on Oxford Street turned left into Holles Street and then right into Cavendish Square and then into Margaret Street, where I passed an old haunt, a pub now called the Phoenix and on to Regents Street then into Langham Place to see the BBC building.
I then retreated to Riding House Street which I walked down until reaching and turning right into Great Portland Street, walking down the street I discovered another old haunt the now closed George Pub.
I then turned into Mortimer Street and continued down to and turned right into Charlotte Street until getting to Percy Street / Rathbone Place junction and continued to Oxford Street. One on Oxford Street I headed down to Charring Cross Road to see the works related to the rebuilding of Tottenham Court Road station. Once I had seen the buildings e.t.c. I carried on to Denmark Street and followed the road on to St. Giles Street until it joined with high Holborn, from there I went to Forbidden Planet on Shaftsbury Avenue.
As it was getting late I walked from Forbidden Planet to Holborn Station via Drury Street, Kemble Street and Kingsway, where I took a 1 to Canada Water ending my trip at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.
